Facebook Groups allow you to connect with people on a deeper level than your regular website or even your Facebook Page. Your Facebook Page can have ads to boost how many people see your posts, but it lacks the ability to have people interact with each other. You can promote your business or organization via a group, but you also need to use your Facebook Group to answer questions and interact with the people in the group.
Your privacy settings on your group can also help or hinder how interactions occur. Facebook has three group settings: public, closed, and secret.
- Public groups are open to anyone. They can join themselves or be added or invited by a current member. This option is good for a group trying to gain members and wanting to open discussion to the public.
- Closed groups are open to anyone who asks to join or who is invited by a current member. This option is good for a group that has a good number of members and has specific discussion about products and/or services.
- Secret groups are open to anyone, but they have to be added or invited by a current member. This option is good for a group that has specific people in it to discuss topics that aren’t meant for the general public.
To effectively use a group, you’ll need to figure out your audience and how they react to content. Your content should not be all promotional, but you do need some promotional content to let your audience know what is going on with your company or organization.
Your audience will see value in your business because of the effort you have made to engage with them instead of solely promoting your business. Don’t be discouraged that you aren’t letting the world know about your business, because word of mouth could be more powerful than a public Facebook post.
